Mental Health Awareness week is a great time to learn more about what others think of mental illness and the treatment that can help those living with concerns related to their wellbeing. One way to learn more is to read what celebrities on the internet have experienced in their lives. While celebrities may seem “superhuman”, they are very much regular humans, often fighting their own mental illness battles. Here are ten celebrities quotes to give you an idea of what some famous actors, models, psychologists, members of the royal family, and others have experienced in their lives.

  1. “I think it’s really important to take the stigma away from mental health… My brain and my heart are really important to me. I don’t know why I wouldn’t seek help to have those things be as healthy as my teeth?” – Kerry Washington

2. “Healing takes time, and asking for help is a courageous step.” – Mariska Hargitay

3. “What I love about therapy is that they tell you what your blind spots are. Although that’s uncomfortable and painful, it gives you something to work with.” – Pink

4. “I found that with depression, one of the most important things you can realize is that you’re not alone. You’re not the first to go through it, you’re not gonna be the last to go through it.” – Dwyane Johnson

5. “Depression is your body saying, ‘I don’t want to be this character anymore. I don’t want to hold up this avatar that you’ve created in the world. It’s too much for me. You should think of the word ‘depressed’ as ‘deep rest.’ Your body needs to be depressed. It needs deep rest from the character that you’ve been trying to play.” – Ariana Grande

6. “In any given moment, we have two options: to step forward into growth or to step back into safety.” – Abraham Maslow

7. “The experience I have had is that once you start talking about [experiencing a mental health struggle], you realize that actually you’re part of quite a big club.” – Prince Harry

8. “Mental health is something that we all need to talk about, and we need to take the stigma away from it. So let’s raise the awareness. Let’s let everybody know it’s OK to have a mental illness and addiction problem.” – Demi Lovato

9. “Our need to look after each other, not just financially and physically, but mentally is a priority. There’s a lot of loneliness out there and this only adds to that.” – Hugh Jackman

10. “I know I am not alone, and more importantly, to all those like me who overschedule, overthink, overwork, over-worry and over-everything, please know you are not alone. We don’t talk enough about mental health and we don’t do enough to destigmatize talking about it.” – Ryan Reynolds
